New Class on Zoom: Jewish Ethics NOW – The Pandemic, Race Relations, The Economy

Here is the e mail about my new class that was just sent out by my synagogue. I thought some of you might be interested.
Rabbi Ronald Roth’s
Tuesday Nosh and Knowledge Class
is taking a New Direction
Jewish Ethics NOW
Log in on your computer
or listen on your phone
It will be offered at two different times:
Tuesdays, 11:30 – 12:30 PM on Zoom Starting June 23
Wednesdays, 8:00- 9:00 PM on Zoom Starting July 1
There are three issues that have overwhelmed our attention in recent weeks: the pandemic; race relations; the economy. In his Tuesday class on Zoom Rabbi Roth will bring Jewish sources to illuminate these issues and to stimulate discussion.
Topics will include:
The Pandemic – Triage, allocation of scarce medical resources, values at the end of life and what they teach us about living, illness, telling the truth to patients.
Race Relations – Traditional Jewish teachings about race, how we view non-Jews, who is the “neighbor” we are commanded to love, how do we love that neighbor, how do we reduce racism in America, a Jewish view of Black Lives Matter, Reparations for Black Americans: Are they justified?
It’s the Economy, Stupid! – Medicare for all? – at what cost?, unequal distribution of resources in America – is it natural and benign, homelessness and poverty: can there really be no needy?
We will start on Tuesday, June 23 and Wednesday, July 1
with an introduction to these issues.
Everyone is welcome. All texts will be in English.
